[Review] Etude House AC Clean Up Mild BB Cushion

5:21 pm

Hey! Today I'm going to review the Etude House AC Clean Up Mild BB Cushion

(long ass name omg)

Image from mik.co.nz
I saw several Youtubers talk about this and they said a lot of great things about this product! So of course, I wanted to try it out myself. The cushion I'm currently using is the W.Lab Honey Beam Cushion. It's no longer on the official website so I assume it's discontinued that's why I'm going on a journey to look for the perfect cushion foundation!

Here's what I look for in a cushion foundation:
  • Must have medium or buildable coverage
  • I have oily skin so I want the cushion to have good oil control to prevent my skin from becoming more oily throughout the day
  • It must feel very lightweight, as if I'm not wearing anything because I hate the feeling of having heavy or cakey makeup
  • I like my cushions to have a dewy finish even if it's only a tad bit dewy because matte finishes feels and looks too heavy on my face :(
I asked my friend who went to Korea a few weeks ago to help me purchase a few things, this being one of them. This cushion is originally 16,000₩ but I got this cushion on sale for 12,800₩. I didn't get an extra refill but it costs only 8,000₩.

The cushion came in a small green box.

I guess they chose a green colour because this product is sort of medicinal?

The actual cushion is in a pastel green colour similar to the PeriPera Ink Lasting Mint Cushion.

The AC Clean Up Cushion beside the W.Lab Honey Beam Cushion for size comparison. The thickness of the cushion is only 2/3s the size of a regular cushion! Super thin, compact, and light, perfect for on-the-go.

A comparison of the inside which I had to blur out for your sake. (My cushion puff is filthy..) Not sure if you can see the difference but the Etude House puff fits in the holder a lot better than the other cushion. It holds the cushion puff in better and prevents it from sliding out which I think is great!

It claims to conceal skin blemishes fast and effectively, leaving the skin feeling fresh. The cushion has a nice tea tree scent which is really pleasant! The coverage is about a light to medium, but more towards light and not quite buildable. It has SPF 50+ and PA+++.

This cushion comes in 3 shades: light beige, natural beige, and honey beigeI usually choose the darkest shade to avoid looking too pale so I got this cushion in natural beige.

[Coverage test with eyeliner and lip tint before the foundation.]

[After 1 layer of the foundation.]

You can see that the coverage isn't too high but does leave a slight dewy finish. Although this cushion is targeted to people with acne prone skin, the coverage is a little lacking.

I guess they say this cushion is good for people with problem skin because of the ingredients the formula has. It contains tea tree oil (hence the scent) and madecassoside aka one of the four compounds in centella plant extract.

I've been using this cushion since I got it and I got to say, I really like it! I didn't mind the light coverage because having a high coverage foundation would feel too heavy on my skin. I don't get that many acnes so using concealer to hide my blemishes and scars wasn't a big problem for me.

One thing I really like about this cushion is the oil control!!! I always use primer, finishing powder, and setting spray when I do my makeup yet my face still gets oily by the end of the day. However, with this cushion, I really noticed a big difference in my base makeup by the end of the night! I can see it slightly coming apart around the nose area but it's not too noticeable.

I wore this cushion to work from 10am, took a nap for an hour, took this picture at around 7pm, and my makeup still looks intact!!

My full face after my nap.. Please don't mind the bed head.

  • Light weight, doesn't feel like you're wearing makeup
  • Has very good oil control (great for people with oily skin)
  • Slightly dewy (Won't be too drying for people with dry skin)
  • Has great ingredients for acne prone skin
  • Super cheap and affordable
  • Natural finish!! (important factor for me)
  • Coverage is quite light
  • Only has 3 shades (Light and 2 mediums. One with more of a yellow undertone and the other with a pink undertone)

YES!!

I think I've found a new favourite cushion to replace my discontinued cushion. (RIP Honey Beam cushion. There will always be a spot for you in my heart.) Although I've found a new favourite, my cushion hunting journey is not over!!

I will definitely look forward to buying more cushions to try out once I can spend money again! (and when I'm not in debt but when am I never..)

[Review] 🌿 Peripera Ink Lasting Mint Cushion! 🌿

6:36 pm

So from my recent haul from eBay, I purchased the Peripera Ink Lasting Mint cushion!!

This is my first cushion from Peripera. I'm not quite sure what drawn me to wanting to try this. Perhaps I was interested in trying something that would reduce the redness on my skin as well as finding a new cushion that my skin would love!

The Ink Lasting series comes in 3 types of cushions. Mint, Pink, and Lavender.

You can determine which cushion fits you the best by checking this guide out!

This cushion contains natural green ingredients to help with sebum control such as:
  • Tea tree
  • Peppermint
  • Centella
  • Boswellia
This cushion claims to keep your skin looking silky smooth with complexion correcting effects of a mint primer!
It also has:
  • Blurring features that help with red blemishes and uneven skin tones.
  • Have an ink-lasting power oil-free of up to 6 hours!
  • Provides a seamless matte coverage with one layer.
The cushion comes in a small and simple box without a refill.

The packaging is very cute and simple! It's in a pastel mint colour. The case material is a little on the cheap side compared to other cushion packaging.

It's got a cute mint coloured puff with polka dots.

Just like other cushions, it's got a protective film you need to remove before use.
This cushion comes in 3 shades: #1 Ivory, #2 Beige, and #3 Sand.

I got my cushion in the darkest shade which is #3 in sand.

My first impression is that the shade seems to match my skin well however, the coverage isn't very high and it didn't really cover up my blemishes that well without concealer. If I were to try to build the coverage, it would become cakey which I dislike.

Eyeliner test! (without the foundation)

With one layer of the cushion
When I was applying the foundation, it was a little difficult to blend into my skin (it left streaks which took a while to blend out). Rather than having my skin absorb the foundation, it felt like it was just sitting on top of my skin.

It has a semi-matte to matte finish which is great for people with oily skin but the formula seems a little drying even though I have oily skin, it made my skin looked dry and flakey. I could see it flaking up around the nose area but perhaps moisturizing in areas that tend to be more dry will help with this problem.

I had the foundation on during work for about 5 hours and I would say it held up pretty well. the only downside is that the formula does make it feel like I wearing something. It's not super heavy but it's not lightweight either.

  • The cushion is affordable, around $16 CAD ($12 USD)
  • 3 different shades
  • It has nice ingredients for acne prone skin

  • Coverage isn't very high nor does it cover up blemishes that well
  • Feels a little heavy/cakey on the skin
  • A bit drying causing foundation to look flakey
I wouldn't repurchase this cushion. It's not the worst I've used but it's not great either. I'm pretty sure there are better cushions out there than this. Hoping to try out the Etude House AC cushion because I've heard great things about it and it seems to have a similar concept to this cushion.
